Temple Chiropractor: Dr. Trevor Botts
I always knew I wanted to help people stay healthy.
I considered many different health fields before deciding to major in Psychology at Brigham Young University, with intentions of becoming a therapist.
In 2005, I met the love of my life, Mandy. We saw each other from across the room and were married 8 months later.
Mandy suffered from migraines her entire life. She tried many different over-the-counter and prescription medications. Sometimes the drugs helped with the pain, but the migraines always came back. Nothing seemed to help with the actual cause of her migraines, or to prevent them from returning.
One day, early into our marriage, while teaching at an elementary school, Mandy developed a migraine so bad that she had to leave her classroom and lie down in the nurse’s office. She called me and said that she was in too much pain to drive herself home. She was also nauseous, dizzy, and her vision was getting blurry. I picked her up from school and drove her home.
I watched helplessly as Mandy suffered through one of the worst migraines of her life. At that moment, I determined that I would find the cause of Mandy’s migraines, so that she wouldn’t have to live in constant fear of when the next one might hit. Over the next several months, Mandy had more migraines, and even started to develop vertigo. We sent her to get an MRI of her brain, but the doctors couldn’t tell us anything. It seemed that the only option was to try to manage her pain and symptoms with drugs.
Then I heard about chiropractic. I learned that chiropractors look for the cause of pain and symptoms and assist the natural healing process of the body to help people feel better, and stay healthy. Maybe this would help Mandy. I decided that I was going to become a chiropractor.
In 2008, after completing my undergraduate studies, I moved to Dallas, TX to attend Parker University. I learned that bones in the spine called vertebrae can become misaligned, causing the nerves at those levels to become irritated. This can cause pain and other symptoms. If this occurs high up in the neck, it can even cause headaches and migraines. Chiropractors adjust the spine, restoring proper motion to the vertebral joints and relieving irritation to the nerves.
While I was in school, Mandy became one of my first patients in the student clinic. One day, Mandy came to me with blurred vision and the classical “aura” associated with a developing migraine. I checked her spine and found that there was a misalignment high up in her neck. I adjusted that level of her spine. To my amazement, over the next half hour, Mandy’s vision returned to normal, and she never developed a migraine. Now, several years later, Mandy no longer needs any medications, and she loves getting adjusted regularly, to stay healthy, and prevent her migraines from returning.
I am excited to join the team at Advanced Chiropractic, where we help people feel better, and stay healthy!
